Being Here

1 - 10 July 2024
Overview

Opening Reception Monday, July 1st (Canada Day!)

@ 8 Water Street, Annex Arts Studio

BEING HERE is the culmination of a busy month of artistic production here on the Blue Hill Peninsula, showcasing the work created by Tessa Greene O’Brien, Annex Arts’ artist-in-residence alongside the work of the multiple artists who have visited the Water Street studios during the month of June.

“This show is a collaboration with Tessa as both an artist and curatorial conduit. It will feature the work she has made here and works made by the many artists who have joined her here as artists-in-residence, to make new work and forge new artistic connections,” shares gallery owner Goody-B Wiseman. “The work being introduced to our program has fresh energy and perspective, yet it feels familiar because it has been made here in response to local stimulus.”

“BEING HERE will begin in the Annex Arts Studio gallery space on Water Street, where the new work has been produced, and then will migrate across the street to Gallery B, joining works by several gallery artists whose new work reflects this place, or simply presence.”

Featuring works by Annex Arts Artists-in Residence: Tessa Greene O’Brien, South Portland, Maine; Emily Ferrante, New Orleans, Louisiana; Jeane Cohen, New York, New York; Annika Earley, Belfast, Maine; Alice Jones, Portland, Maine, and Jana Benitez, NYC.

Also featuring new works by Annex Arts Fellows-in-Residence (2018, 2023) Kelly Carmody, Waltham, Massachusetts; and Vikto Butko, Moscow, Russia. Also on view: fresh work by Louise Bourne, Hannah Bureau, Sara MacCulloch, Mara Korkola, Chrissy Nickerson, and Christina Thwaites.

BEING HERE opens with a reception at Annex Arts, 8 Water Street on Monday, July 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit will then move to Gallery B. BEING HERE is on display through July 10.
